Choosing a Pool Finish: Plaster, Quartz, Pebble or Glass

How finish type changes color, feel and durability, with tips on samples, water balance and the first weeks after fill.

What the finish does

The interior finish is the surface you see and touch. It determines color, texture and how easily the pool collects stains or algae.

It also protects the shell from water.

Plaster

White plaster gives a classic pale aqua. Colored plaster varies. It is smooth and can stain or etch if the water is out of balance.

It is a traditional choice and can be renewed.

Quartz

Quartz finishes blend crushed quartz with cement and offer color depth and strength. They resist staining and etching better than plaster.

They feel smooth and suit many styles.

Pebble

Pebble finishes use small stones for a natural, textured look. They are very durable. Texture can be rough for some feet, and polished pebble is softer.

They produce deep, natural colors.

Glass bead

Glass bead finishes add sparkle and color depth. They are smooth and durable, and they are a premium choice.

They suit modern and resort designs.

Sampling and start-up

View large wet samples in your light. Consider the finish with tile, coping and deck. A careful start-up and balanced water protect any finish.
