The visible edge
An infinity edge is a wall that is slightly lower than the water level, so water spills over it in a thin sheet. From certain angles the pool appears to continue into the view.
The edge may be tile, stone or glass, and it needs to be perfectly level.
The catch basin
Below the edge sits a basin that catches the spilled water. It is sized for the flow, and a hidden connection returns the water to the pool.
The basin is usually concealed behind a wall or planting.
The surge tank and pumps
A surge tank holds water when the pool is running and returns it as needed. Dedicated pumps move water from the basin to the pool, and control systems keep levels in balance.
Good engineering keeps the sheet smooth and the equipment quiet.
Best sites
Infinity edges shine on slopes and with views. They can also work on flat sites with raised walls. The lower side should be treated as part of the design.
We study sightlines from the house and from the lawn.
Maintenance
Leaves and debris can collect in the basin, and surfaces need cleaning. Water level must be monitored. We design access so care is easy and show you what to do.
A service plan is available.
Variations
Single, double and wraparound edges, perimeter overflow and glass walls all use similar principles. Each suits different sites and styles.
We show examples and 3D views.
Choose an infinity edge where the view deserves it and invest in the engineering behind it.
